ART FOR HEART

Because every child deserves the right to dream.

“For these children, art is a distant luxury.”
These were the quiet yet powerful words spoken by a teacher during one of our recent visits to a remote school in East Rukum. In that moment, it became painfully clear: while many children around the world draw with colourful pens and markers, children in these Himalayan villages are creating with mud, leaves, charcoal, and scraps—not because it’s artistic choice, but because it’s all they have.

Art for Heart is our response.

This campaign aims to bring the joy and freedom of artistic expression to children who have never held a proper pencil or opened a sketchbook. With your support, we will deliver thoughtfully curated art packages to schools in some of the most under-resourced regions of Nepal—starting with Rukum, Dolpa, and the outskirts of Kathmandu.

Each package includes:

  1. A sketchbook

  2. Drawing pencils & eraser

  3. Colour markers & crayons

  4. Sharpener and pencil case

Just £25 will sponsor a full art set for four children.
That’s the cost of a meal out—but the impact it can make is lifelong.

Why Art?

Art builds confidence, empathy, and creativity. It gives children the power to imagine new worlds, to express unspoken feelings, and to see themselves as creators—not just survivors. In places where access to basic needs is a daily challenge, art becomes a form of hope.

Through this campaign, we are not only giving tools—we’re planting seeds for future artists, illustrators, and dreamers who just need a little colour in their lives.

Project: ART For Heart – Phase 1

Location: Nalanda Buddhist School, Tukuche, Mustang

Status: Completed (December 2025)

The Mission

ART For Heart is a new initiative by Metal for Nepal designed to move beyond basic essentials and nurture the emotional and creative well-being of children. We believe that creativity is a powerful tool for self-expression and resilience. This campaign aims to provide access to art supplies and creative outlets for some of the most disadvantaged children living in the remote corners of Nepal, where such resources are rarely available.

The Journey to Mustang

For Phase 1, our team traveled to the high-altitude village of Tukuche in the Mustang District. Mustang is a region known for its deep Buddhist heritage and stunning, arid landscapes, but its schools often lack the funding for "non-essential" curriculum items like art supplies. We visited the Nalanda Buddhist School, a center for learning that serves children from across the region, many of whom live away from their families to pursue their education.

Key Achievements

  1. Launched the inaugural phase of the ART For Heart program.

  2. Distributed 289 Art Packages to the students of Nalanda Buddhist School.

  3. Each package was curated to provide high-quality materials, allowing students to explore painting, drawing, and creative storytelling.

  4. Conducted interactive sessions to encourage the children to use art as a medium for positivity and hope.

  5. Established a foundation for future "Art For Heart" phases in other remote districts.
